The "It Takes A Village - Boys Mentorship & Empowerment Program" is founded on the African proverb that emphasizes the importance of a community's collective responsibility in providing children with a safe and nurturing environment. Census data reveals that nearly 50% of African American boys under the age of 17 reside with a single mother, significantly more than their white counterparts, of whom just 16% do. Research indicates that children from fatherless homes are more likely to face issues such as dropping out of school, developing behavioral problems, experiencing unemployment, falling into the criminal justice system, and engaging in drug and substance abuse. This workshop provides participants with access to a curriculum that focuses on developing self-awareness, social skills, motivation, empathy, self-management, and self-love, which they may not have been exposed to otherwise. Through interactive activities spread over 12 weeks, participants gain the tools necessary to cultivate resilience and confidence, helping them to become productive young men in their community.

Centered on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and wealth-building skills, this tier aims to empower men to feel equipped in providing and protecting their families. The provision of essential tools not only boosts their confidence but also sets them on a path toward lasting success.

Implementing this approach with adult males has demonstrated its effectiveness in opening both their minds and hearts. Participants acquire valuable tools to enhance their roles as fathers, husbands, brothers, and more. The focus extends to self-discovery and a realization of their evolving identity. Discussions delve into the circumstances that led to their current situation, emphasizing the abnormality of human confinement. Engaging in man-to-man conversations, the program underscores the importance of learning how to love and be loved, fostering personal growth and connection.
